The Playbook | Bundesliga Youth ID Camp Recap

The FTF Canada x Bundesliga Youth ID Camp, in conjunction with Smart Football, took place from May 25th to May 26th in Mississauga, Ontario. The individual ID Camp was comprised of 11v11 games for players looking to pursue academy trial opportunities with German clubs.

Below are 2 standout players from each age group (2009-2007) & (2006-2005) at the event

Gabriel Etienne | LW | 2007 Born | Vaughan SC

Etienne is a lethal and dangerous attacking prospect out of Vaughan SC. He is dominant in 1v1 situations and looks for every opportunity to get turned and run at defenders, regardless of where he plays across the front three. He’s also able to threaten space in behind very well as he’s got rapid pace and will look to finish whenever he gets sight of the opponent’s goal. It will be interesting to see how Etienne’s profile translates in Europe.

Michael Peres | CDM | 2008 Born| Ottawa St-Anthony’s Futuro

Peres is a composed defensive midfielder who will dictate the match for his side. His habits are fantastic as he’s constantly scanning while his side is in and out of possession. This allows him to understand where pressure is coming from the opponent and he’s able to play the ball round corners with decisive outlets in possession, while taking away passing lanes and delaying an attack from the opponent defensively. DC International were very high on Michael at the event and with the possibility of obtaining a European passport in the coming months, the future looks bright for Peres.

Josh Crete | CB | 2006 Born | Ottawa St-Anthony’s Futuro

Crete is a left-footed, technical central defender who doesn’t lose duels. The left-sided centre half is very comfortable in possession and can pick passes over short, mid, and long ranges to break the press of the opponent. Defensively, Crete reads the game at a high level, is tactically sound and wins both aerial and terrestrial duels at will. Already training at Athletico Ottawa’s Development Program it is evident that Josh needs to be in a full-time professional academy system.

Braden Stevanovic | CAM | 2006 Born | Windsor City FC

Stevanovic has the ability to take the game by the squeeze of the neck. The creative midfielder is great in tight spaces and is comfortable on the ball under pressure. He showed a great understanding of the match’s flow, as he chose the right moments to play one-and-two touch to break the opponent’s press. When he got sight of goal, Stevanovic showed the ability to score at a high rate throughout the two days. Whether Stevanovic ends up choosing to take the NCAA route or the professional route his future looks very bright.
